The saps thus eaused in the works are filled by old workmen brought from various parts of the Empire. Experts alone among the workers are left undisturbed. The others are constantly being suspended and threatened with the trenches. "In t'hieof peace Krupp's Works employ about 35,000 workmen and 8000 clerks. To-day the number of workmen alone is SO.OOO for Essen and 155,000 in the various branches of the firm throughout the country. There are al~o a num-' ber of foreign workmen employed at Krupp f s, including Dutchmen and Danes, gome Norwegians and many Swedes.— Exchanges
