THIS WEEK
To the Editor. Sir, —This second week of XVvcmber is an important t!ime. as important matters are being considered and determined. I refer chiefly to the elections and referendums being held in. ■"America on the second Tuesday of the month. The election of the president is of very great importance, and I am ».sure the press of Neiv Zealand will give us the earliest news of the result; but at the same time several States are in a life and death struggle with the greatest enemy of mankind—the drink. In Arkansas it is a question of restoration rf licenses, but in seven other States it is a straight out vote for State prohibition. My desire now is, in the first place, to ask all newspapers to give as full accounts of the results of the voting on the liquor issues as they will, lam su v e, on the presidential votings; but also to invite your readers to pay particular attention to the newspapers during the week, and not to be too much elated, or too much cast down, at the reports of gains or losses. If men and women will only think, and then act, the righs must win in the end. But there is another important day in this week—that is the World's Teiriperance Sunday, November 12, when it is anticipated that the pulpits of this land will resound with th;i truths about alcoholic drinks as they are found in sacred and secular literature; and as they are being exemplilied in the present day.—l am, etc,, GEO. H. MAt'N'DEn, New Plymouth November
