SUICIDE AT RAKAIA. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchureh, Yesterday. Alexander Strachan, aged 47 years, single, was found dead, hanging in his brother's woolshed near Rakaia. Deceased, who belonged to Otago, was in the Rakaia for a few day's holiday. DRIVERS AWARD INADEQUATE. Wellington, Yesterday. The Drivers' Union yesterday carried a motion that the wages of £2 12s for a 52-hour week in Wellington, as awarded by the Arbitration Court, is a totally inadequate and sweating wage, the award is indefensible and against the weight of evidence. The union expressed complete • lack of confidence in the impartiality of the court and resolved to avoid it in future. They are asking the employers for a conference and opening negotiations . with the waterside workers with the view of a working arrangement at; present and ultimate amalgamation.
