The Nation, in an article bended "Vic' tory of Freedom," says: —''Australia's rejection of the conscription for overseas offers substantial ground for hope for humanity after the war. Australian labor has won the battle which British labor has lost. Canada is plainly against conscription, and, with the Irish example, we may conclude that the advent of force and the domain of military service has been definitely stayed throughout the Empire. We all desire the closer of the free British nations, and it is .now clear that the union cannot be founded upon forced Imperial service. So far :>.* an Imperial war is concerned, it is clear the Dominions wish to retain their liberty. The Australian sacrifices will be enormous, but the vote is a reminder that there is a limit to the drain of colonial man power."
