TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.
—!■ i MONTHLY MEETING. The Tarnnaki County Council met yesterday. Present: Crs. J. Brown (in the chair), A. E. Laurence, J. B. Simpson, W. Binnie, C. Andrews, A. Morton, J. S ; Connctt, J. Andrews, and D. McAllum. The chairman reported that he had been unable to secure any grants from the Hon. W. Fraser, Minister for Public Works, wl&i the latter visited New Plymouth three weeks ago, CROYDON ROAIfc Messrs. W. Barnett and W. B. Card, settlers on Croydon road, waited on the Council and applied for assistance tu .jwt the road leading to their properties in order. It was stated that the Council had authorised the expenditure of £lO on the work some time ago, but nothing had been done. It was decided to spend the £lO without delay. The riding members were asked to visit the road and to submit a report to the Council. INSPECTOR'S REPORT, int Council's inspector. Mr. C. l, Grant,'reported that from instructions received from the chairman to repair the fee board at the Puniho Toll Gate he did so on October 4. On October 13 and 14 he went out to Kent road and repaired tho bridge there as directed. He h* I been over all the County roads and had taken the names of several persons for allowing thair cattle to wander. He had issued 10 licenses to drivers of vehicles using the County roads. On, October 5 and 19 he attended the Magistrate's Court to prosecute 'sevn persons for breaches of by-laws. He had made a start with the danger sign boards, and expected to have them finished s->on. CRUSHING PLANT. The following report - 'on work done In different parts of the . ">unty were read as follows:—Engine-driver Mackic: The crusher worked four days at Waiwakaiho crushing 2CO yards; three days crushing for the Agricultural Society crushing 254 yards; four days Waicngona crushing 280 yards; one day at Durham road crushing 72 yards. Total quantity crushed 872 yards. Engine-driver Fitzgerald: My time was occupied rolling and scarifying for Foreman J. Holmes, Proud, Giddy and A. Mallon. I also packed the steam chest and did other sundry repairs, MOA RIDING. Foreman Laurence.—My time vras taken up with miscellaneous repairs. I reconstructed the" culvert on Razorback, opposite V. Fabish's place. The watercourse through Messrs. J. W. Harding's and Simon's place requires cleaning out as it is blocking all outlets. Foreman Bennett.—l have widened the cutting at the top of Slippery Hill and have taken off a sharp corner by Mangaone road. Foreman Mallon.—l have had the Inglewood Borough Council's roller for two days rolling and scarifying on Mountain Road North. The crushing plant is now working at Durham Road. Foreman Heal—l have put in most of my time on the Junction Road. 1 could do with the small roller on the Lepper and Upland Roads, also a horse and cart. There are some boulders on the Upland Road that t would like broken as the wvi needs the metal. MANGOREI ROAD. Foreman Batten.—Roads in my length are in fair order. Foreman Spencer.— I have been employed on the usual maintenance work, Mangorei is breaking badly near the Mangorei creamery. I require a horse and cart for patching. WAITARA RIDING eman J. Holmes.—During Hie moriiii I completed re-coating Mangaone Hill. With permission of the chairman I got three 9in pipes to widen the corner at the junction of Waitara. and Devon roads. I require a man with horse and cart for three days. Foreman F. Holmes.—My time has been taken up with usual repairs. Foreman Giddy.— L. Paul completed h'is contract at Waiongona delivering .286 yards in all. I badly need metal on lower end of Mountain road. Foreman Hursthouse road from the factory to the top of the hill is getting very and I would like metal as soon as possible for this. A large wooden culvert on Hursthouse road requires renewing with 24in pipes. There is also one on the King road in a 20ft filling that is dangerous. OMAtA RIDING. ' Foreman Seamark. —I have been oei cupied carrying out the usual repairs I employed a horse and dray two days during the month. Foreman Eva.—l have been engaged on the ordinary maintenance work. I have been unable to get teams to do the gravelling on the Upper Barret road, however the road is unsuitable at the present time to receive metal, OKATO RIDING Foreman Meredith.—There are several cuttings on the Upper Timaru road in a very bad state. I would like extra labor to the extent of ±l3 10s to ploufh and form same. Foreman Sefton. —M; "me has been taken up with miscellaneous repairs. Foreman McGrath.—The roads in my length are in very fair order.. I cut gorse on County reserve e.t Tapuae and also formed 50 chains on Upper Ply mouth road. COUNCIL'S INSTRUCTIONS. The Council's foremen were instructed to furnish nonthly returns of the lengths of road sea '•ified and rolled each month. The req jests made by the foremen in their reports were granted. The inspector was instructed to repair the Mangaoaka bridge on Devon road. It was that Mr. Good, of Rugby road, Tariki, be requested to forthwith clear all obstructions from the watercourse running through his property, failing which the Council would do the work at Mr. Good's expense, TENDERS. The schedule of tenders for November was approved of as follows:—No 392, Mahotahi, Haskill, 7s per yard: No. 390, Waiwakaiho, R. Parkin, 4s fld per yard; No. 377, Tarata Pit, Julian and (ir.Uls, 12s 6d per yard; No. 397, Hurford and 'Pheany Roads, J. Kendall, 0s 4d per yard; No. 390, 170 yards Bluejrums, J. Kendall, 8s Cd per yard; No. "99, Koru Depot, A. W. Cowling, 8s Od per yard; No. 403, Stony River, A. W. Cowling, 5s lid per yard; No. 404, Oakuru and Wairau, H. Julian, 0s 3d per yard. The Ngntoro. Durham Road, Maketawa Junction Road, Chain Bridge, Willi!i«s' Pit, and Atkinson's depot tenders were referred to the chairman to deal with. TOLL REVISION, The committee appointed to revise the toi., rharges recommended s=. follows: "That the toll for motorcycles be fid; motor-cycle and side-car. U: motoi-ear over 25 h.p.. fii:
all other motor-cars, 3a-; each trailer attached to motor-car, 3s; motor lorry. ss; each trailer attached, ss; motor omnibus or motor coach, ss; motor delivery van up to 25 h.p., 3s. That Toll Collector insist on every person and vehicle passing through the ga-te to stop and obtain the receipt for toll fee." —Adopted MERGING OF AREAS'. The Moa Road Board asked tho Council to give its consent to the merging of the properties of Messrs P Hoby, <W. H. Langman, C. H. Bennett, and McFetridge, at present, situated.;." the Waitara ./est Road District, into the Moa Road District. The matter was referred *" the chairman. BOUNDARY POSTS. The Inglewood Borough Council wrote, stating that it was agreeable to pay half-cost of making and erecting a concrete post for the position named. It was decided to erect boundary posts throughout the county. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to '£1(5(53 18s fid, including general expense. C3lO 2s sd, Moa Riding £lOsl (is 2d, Mangorei Riding £4l 8s fid, Waitara Riding £OB 8s 3d, Omata Riding £B4 17s sd, Okato Riding £ll2 los 9d, were passed for payment* BANK OVERDRAFT. The clerk reported that the bank ovo» draft was £10,740 19s 9d.
