LAND FOR SOLDIERS.

(POSITION IN CANTERBURY. Christehurch, Nov. 2. A deputation from the Canterbury Patriotic Society waited upon the Land Board this afternoon to urge tlnj board to. assist the society in placing returned Canterbury soldiers upon Canterbury land. In reply, the Commissioner said that ninety areas, had been submitted to the Land Board, but the prices asked prevented many being acquired at present. Forty thousand acres were being subdivided for closer settlement by returned soldiers, and ten estates wove now being valued in the province, with a view to their acquisition for the same purpose.
