90 OFFICERS AND 100 MECHANICS, Wellington, Yesterday. "We have raised the limit of the num* liei of men who may he sent away in the motor-boat patrol mechanics' section to 100," said the Hon. J. Allen (Minister for Defence). ''The limit first imposed was 75, but I have sprung it to 100, Tlie number of officers who might be rei orutted was also limited at first to 75, but that, limit lias been raised to 90, They will go away as second lieutenants, "These are the final limits so far as I am concerned," added the Minister. "Tha Minister for Monitions (the Hon. A. M. Myers) lias, of course, to deal with everg case on its merits, and say whether tha applicant can be spared from the indus-\ try he is connected with. They will ba men, many of them, who have been running a motor garage, amatout yachtsmen, and so forth. They must, at all events, be men who know SODW)tbiP« about machinery."
