A combination lias been effected between the Eastern Australian Company ami the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, whereby a regular service will be run between Japan and Australia. Employees in all mines in the Commonwealth have decided to cease work to-day as a protest against not receiving eight hours from bank to bank. In connection with the miners' strike, the employers claim that by gran tin" the hours asked the output would be decreased below the paying point. The miners reply that the output has been fully maintained on all previous occasions where the hours have been reduced, and will be so on this occasion if up-to-date methods of working are introduced.
