A sensation was caused at Hikurangi railway station on Friday morning (says ihe Wliangaroi correspondent of the New Zealand Herald), when a number of jicofle witnessed a remarkable escape from fatal injury. Mr. and Mrs. Perry left (lie early train from Whangarci at Kikurangi, aiid while Mr. Perry was collecting parcels, Mrs. Perry, with a baby ten months' old, in a go-cart, and a boy" three years old, started across tl>e line for the township. As they set out no truck apparently was in sight, but on passing the end of hit the go-cart, ca „ „ through the shed. The screams of the mother soon brought help, when it was found that the baby escaped injury. The gc-cart had evidently run on ahead of the truck before the baby was thrown out. The go-cart was smashed to pieces. The boy, who was holding on to the gocart when it was struck, received a scalp wound and a bruised Mrs. Perry escaped injury.
