Dr. A. W. Averill, Bishop of AiicN land, is expected to arrive in New Plymonth next Tuesday. He will take charge of St. Mary'a parish for several weeks, during the absence of the Rev, A. 11. Colvile in Tasmania.

Sincere regret is expressed in the annua! report of the New Zealand Lawn. Tennis Association at the loss by death of Mr. John Conolly, president* of the Mnribnrough Lawn Tennis Association, aw: vice-president for that association to the New Zealand Association.

Dr. Edward Henry Alexander, formerly resident surgeon at'Ashburn Hal!, Wi.ikari private hospital for mental 'il senses, was (says a Press Association t:;egram from Dimedin) found dead on Saturday at his temporary residence, /.Hirnington. Death was apparently due to a gunshot wound. Deceased, who i-ns a son of the late Dr. Alexander, i'l'ic.- studying at Otago University, went to Edinburg, where he acted as lemonstrator in pathology, and subs:;quern'y specialised in mental diseases at Edinburgh. Returning to New Zealand, he practised in Blenheim, but hi* ■health gave way and he went to DnnI'.hn, taking up practice at Ashbnrn fia'l Deceased was a single man, about s.'i years of age. His aged mother isi still living. At the inquest yesterday a verdict was return of death from -i would in the head, self-inflicted, whilej in a state of depression. *
