Winner, Opunake, who was serving in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, died of wounds on October 10. The. funeral of the late Private C- H. Smith, who died at Trontham, took plaeo at Talaraimaka on Sunday, and was very largely attended by local residents. The Defence Department was represented by the area officer and regimental quarter-master-sergeant, and the 11 jh Regiment was represented by officers of "A" Company.
