Professor David's injuries, which arc not serious, resulted from a fall of 70 feet in a mining shaft.—Sydney cable. A London cable says that the Freedom of tiie City will be presented to Mr, Massey on November 6th. Mr. W. L. Gordge, of Vogeltown, received a cable yesterday stating that his son, Private C.-N. Gordge, who U in Broekenhurst hospital, is doing well. At u meeting of the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Monday evening it was decided to invite the Row Morgan Richards, of TamakiHowick. Auckland, to preach on Sunday, November 10. '1 lie death took place at Gordon Boad, Tokd. on Saturday of Mr. William Hancox (better known us Harris), the adopted son of Mr. G. A. Harris, after a short severe illness. A London cable reports the death ot Sir Joseph Beecham, Bart, manufacturer and philanthropist, who did much to popularise opera; also of Sir Jacob Eliui Kassoon a noted Indian merchant and banker, vlio established a Central College of Science in Bombay. Wilkie during the long period he acted as a member of the Board.
Mrs. R. Pascoe, who died at Greymouth on Saturday last, was a sister of Mr. Jonas Masters, of Stratfard. Mrn I'as.'oe was the widow of Mr. R. Paseoe, who was killed in the Brminer explosion 20 viars ago. There are four married children to mourn their loss, one »on, Oeoipe, being a resident of New Ply mouth.
Nurse Hilda Hooker, sister of Mr. L. 0. Hooker, of Hawera, who lias been stationed at Trentham for some timo left for Trentham again on Monday, after a short stay in Hawera. Though looking fairly well, she has never quite recovered from the effects of the strain and exposure suffered when the Marquette, on which she was travelling, was torpedoed. She is hoping to go abroad again. ,
