DISTRICT NEWS.

L'REXIUI. ' The Waitara. troupe, the "Merry Musical Maoris," gave a most successful concert, in aid of the Belgian Fund, to a crowded house in Urenui on Thursday last. Every item on the programme was received with loud and insistent encores. The efforts of the Maoris will be web coined anywhere as a musical treat. The accompaniments, played by Mr. Isaacs, Miss Edwin, and Mr. Bee'kbessenger, left nothing to be desired. As the members of the troupe are giving most of their time and their usual whole-hearted efforts for the good of the cause, it is to be hoped that wherever they perform they will be greeted with crowded houses. A word of praise is due t'o Mr. Buchanan, their manager, for the efficiency of the arrangements and the paternal way in which, he looked to the comforts of his troupe. The song Give Mo a Penny" brought in £2 las Gd. After the concert the troupe ■were entertained to supper by Mr. Burke, everyone having a right royal time. The takings for the evening were £44 ISs. During the interval Mr. lialeombc presented Corporal Dave Wiley, who is on linal leave, with a wristlet watch, on behalf of his numerous Urenui friends, who wished him good luck and a safe return.
