The prisoner declared that lie was dissatisfied ivith the. President's foreign policies. The police believe him to be insane.
■LABOR SUPPORTS WILSON. New York, October 22. The American Federation of Labor has endorsed Mr. Wilson's candidature. It is the first time the federation has open-, ly supported a presidential candidate.

King, a Labor M.P., has been fined £IOO under the Defence of the Realm Act for communicating information with respect to the supply and condition of certain war material in a letter to George RalTalovitch, of New York. The prosecution stated that King's 'letter made sensational statements which were published in America by a news agency of which RalTalovitch was the representative, and wirelessed to Germany, being published in the German press. King afterwards wrote to Mr.Lloyd George and stated that when he' wrote to RalTalovitch he had no doubts as to the latter's loyalty, ami that he was greatly distressed at the affair. ... ,

A big anti-conscription procession in the streets, and a demonstration on the Yarra bank, met with a very mixed reception from the crowds of spectators. The police had difficulty in checking several attempts to break up the procession. MESISAOE FROM FRENCH (PREMIER, Melbourne, October 23. Mr. Hughes has received a message from M. Briand expressing gratitude and admiration for Australian soldiers, and expressing the wish to see Australia fully prepared to go with France to the end.
