TRIAL OF NOTE FORGERS.
A WARDER ATTACKED. . FOUR PRISONERS ESCAPE. Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. Received Oct. 23, 11.30 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 23. The trial has opened of five men who were arrested in connection with the .£5 note forgeries. Two of tliein pleaded guilty, and were remanded for sentence. Four prisoners, two of whom had been convicted in connection with the note forgeries, attacked a warder in TnnivPorth gaol and escaped. One subsequently surrendered, but the others are still at liberty. The; warder was taken to hospital, where he is in a critic-si ccndition.
