STRATFORD.

DOMAIN' BOAEE (From Our Special Reporter.) Stratford. Saturday. Mr. 0. Curtis presided at a meeting of the Domain Board on Friday. Dr. Paget and Messrs H. Abraham and H. Wilson waited on the Board and stated their reasons for opposing the proposed crusher site in Page Street. Dr. Paget stated that the erection of a crusher on the reserve would be detrimental to the place, and in his opinion was unnecessary. Mr. Wilson emphasised the point that the Hoard held a sacred trust on behalf of the public, and it, would be wrong to give any part of it away. The Town Clerk forwarded a letter slating in effect that the Borough Engineer hud reported that none of the Borough reserves were suitable for the purpose. Failing securing a site in Page Street, the engineer suggested leaving it at the present position. The site suggested would enable the Council to work; more economically, having more room to concentrate the plant. The Council trusted the Board would grant the request.

Mr. Kirkwood queried the Board's legal position, although anxious to assist the Council. Mr Thomson was against granting the section as desired by the Council. The following motion was carried unanimously: '-That the Board regrets it cannot accede to the request of the Council to grant the Page Street section as a crushing site."

GENERAL. The president and secretary of (.lie A. and P. Association intend visiting the Manawatu and Wangamii Shows. Hatters in connection with the local show to be held late in November are being pushed ahead. This month the Stratford Dairy Factory paid out £8277. The heavy rain and winds prevailing on Saturday failed to depress the ardor of the Red Cross workers. They were very energetic, and the results of their efforts should mean a big lift to the funds. Stratford will be very quiet on Monr day. The bowlers will have a progressive pairs match on the green, proceeds from entrance fees being placed to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. . , i
