THE WHEAT MARKET. Australian-N.Z, Cable Association New York, Oct. 20. Chicago wheat, December 1712, KiOJ; may 171%, 108%, the highest prices, with one exception, since the civil war. It is predicted that prices will soon reach two dollars a bushel and possibly three, unless the Government imposes an embargo or regulates prices. TARANAIU WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES. ME, NEWTON KINK'S REPORT. At my monthly sale of the above produce, held on Tuesday, October 17, I offered the following catalogue: M) hales and GO sacks wool, 1805 sheepskins, 5 casks and i2 tins tallow, 548 hides and JB4l calfskins. There was a good attendance of buyers and bidding was exceptionally spirited throughout. Prices for crutchings showed an advance of %d per lb. There was a keen demand for sheepskins, and I secured from 12% d to 13d' per lb foi all good, sound-pelted butcher skins, and up to 22s each for fullwoolled skins. Both the aibove prices are the highest yet received at my sale. Cow hides also showed a distinct advance of fully y 2 d to %d, ox hides generally being a shade easier. Butdher ox sold up to ll%d and farmers' cow to 10y 2 d. Tallow was firm at late rates. Calfskins again advanced %d to %d per lb, with thu demand unsatisfied at the higher range. Owing to the sale carded for November 14 clashing with the Wellington wool sale, this sale will not be held. The next sale will be held on November 28.
LOAN AND MERCANTILE OO.'S REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Stratford branch) report as follows: On Thursday, September 28, we held mir Kohuratahi sale, when we had a fair yarding, and have to report a good sale. Prices: Store rows (small) £5 17s, medium £0 6s, fair weight £7 15s, I yearlings heifers (small) £3 15s to £3 10s Id, yearling steers £4 Ills (id to £5 7s, 2'/o-year steers up to lOgns, 2-year empty heifers £0 to £0 10s, wethers' 30s .11(1 to 32,s 2d, hoggets 23s Gd to 255. On Friday, September 20, we held our sale at Matau, but owing to the very wet and stormy weather the yarding was small, but everything was cleared at full market values. On Tuesday, October 3, we held our usual fortnightly sale at our Stratford yards. We had a fair yarding and competition was good. Most lines were cleared at satisfactory prices. In the dairy yards wc had a fair yarding, but the quality of previous years is lacking. f!ood lines are in good demand. On Thursday, October 12, we held a sale at our Kohnratahi yards. The day was wretclliedly wet and the roads were in a very bad state. The yarding, however, was fair, and the ?alc was considered a good one, and cattle sold at advanced values. Flic following are some of the prices realised:—Store cows up to £0 10s, vearling heifers £4 9s 0d to £4 14s, yearling .steers £4 lis lid to £6 10s, i!-vear steers, .small, £8 4s, 2-year empty heifers £G to £ti 15s (id, wethers 31s 7d, hulls £■!> 5s to £!) 10s. In' Friiliy, Wlh, we held our usual monthly sale at Te Wera, when we had a fair yarding, and cleared most lines at advanced prices. Store rows, medium, £0 17s fid, heavy £S to £S ISs. fat cows to £0 14s, 3-Vear steers £ll ss, 18-months steers £7 9s, yearling heifers £4 to £4 2s Gd, yearling steers £4 7s Gd, dairy cows, small, £S ISs to £O, good line's £ls 10s to £lO is, bulls up to £l2 12s. Our next Te Wera sale will lie held on November 10.
On Monday, lfith, we held our first bull sale. There was a large entry and variety, all breeds being well represented. Competition was good and a large number were disposed of. Shorthorns were in good demand, and those entered by Mr. Jas. R. C'orrig.in sold well, as well as a few pedigree Jerseys. Prices: Jersevs, from lOans to 2S«ns; Holsteins, nothing choice, "C 7 10s to £0 15s for small, fair £lO 5s to £l2 10s-. Shorthorns, £0 15s to £l3 for small, £l3 10s to £ls 15s for medium, good Shorthorns Hi to 27gns. On Tuesday, 17th, we held our usual fortnightly sale at Stratford. We had a good yarding of both store and dairy cattle and pigs, and cleared everything at the hammer or afterwards at advanced prices. There was keen competition foi most lines. Wool and hides Tuesday, 10th, we held our monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, hides and tallow. We offered a. very fair catalogue to a spirited bunch of 'buyers, Sheepskins were in keen demand, and showed an advance on last sale rates of y>d to %d per lb. Oddments of wool realised full values,: whilst hides and calfskins were much sougTit after, and at advanced prices. The following prices were obtained: Sheepskins: Pelts (inferior) 3|4d per lb; crossbred, torn, little wool, 5%d; three-quarter and full-ivoolled skin.-. AUCKLAND. At Westfield last Thursday dairy eattlo were penned in full numbers and sold at high prices. Tiest dairy cows and heifers £lO to £l4 10s, others £6 10s to £!) 10s, aged and inferior eows £3 las to £5 10s. At Albert yards horses were penned in average numbers and sold at late rates, Heavy draughts £25 to £33, medium draughts £l7 10s to £3B, light harness horse; £8 10s to £l4 10s, hacks £7 to £1(1, ponies £4 to £8„ weeds 10s upwards.
