SAWMILL DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. | . Dargaville, Oct. 21. Between seven and eight o'clock last night a destructive fire at Tangowaliine, Northern Wairoa, totally destroyed Gibbons, Ltd.'s sawmills. At first the township and extensive stocks of timber were in danger, but a north-east wind kept the fire in the direction of the river. It was impossible to save the milling plant. The steamer Wairua proceeded to the scene from Dargaville with the Fire Brigade aboard. A steam fire engine was sent this morning to save two million feet of white pine. SOLDIER FOUND DROWNED.. Wellington, Oct. 2f. The body of Private Thomas Fairly, D Company, 21st. Reinforcements, was found in the harbour. Deceased belonged to Caversham. Dimedin. The body had apparently been in the water a considerable time. A pass slip on the body showed that his leave expired on the Oth inst.
