Mr. 8. W. Shaw, was, on Friday nighl, elected chairman of directors 'of the Equitable Building Society of New Plymouth fur the ensuing year. A London cable states that Cambridge University has decided to confer the degree of L.L.D. on Mr. Mussey, and that he will be sworn in as a Privy Councillor on Tuesday. A London cable states that Sir William Clark lias been appointed Comptroller of the General Department of Commercial Intelligence, wherewith the Exhibitions branch of the Board of Trade has amalgamated with a view to improving the collection and dissemination of commercial information. Lieutenant V. S. Wilding has. l«en gazetted from the New Zealaud Artillery to aide-de-camp on 1 lie personal staff. A= a sort of side-line ia his activities, Lieut. Wilding won a couple of prizes at. a horse show "somewhere in Franoe," and within hail of the tiring line. Tennis players who, in such numbers, deplored the death of Anthony Wilding, will be glad to hear of his brother's well-earnedv promotion. The many friends of Captain Chaplain •T. M. Sullivan, will regret to hear that his throat had been causing him a good deal of trouble, and the doctor had ordered him complete rest for one month. He had chosen for a change, what he described as "the lovely, lonely, lazy village e.f Btirley,' \2 miles from Bournemonth.
