Mr. 8. W. Shaw, was, on Friday nighl, elected chairman of directors 'of the Equitable Building Society of New Plymouth fur the ensuing year. A London cable states that Cambridge University has decided to confer the degree of L.L.D. on Mr. Mussey, and that he will be sworn in as a Privy Councillor on Tuesday. A London cable states that Sir William Clark lias been appointed Comptroller of the General Department of Commercial Intelligence, wherewith the Exhibitions branch of the Board of Trade has amalgamated with a view to improving the collection and dissemination of commercial information.
