SICK AND WOUNDED.
&LL 'POSSIBLE INFORMATION BEING KENT. GOOD WORK BY TUNNELLTNU CORPS. The Hon. J. Allen (Minister for Defence) stated on Tuesday that lie had received a letter from General Birdwood, in which, dealing with the notification of casualties, that officer says: "I can, of course, quite understand and fully sympathise with the feelings of people at such a distance who have done all they can in giving their best to fight for the cause, and only feel that the least that can be done is to keep them informed of their progress; hut, with tlie enormous numbers fighting, there must be some limit to the information sent out, unless, the staffs are to be worked to death." "I give you that statement," said the Minister, "because, as f have said before, those at the front are sending all i the information they can about the sick and wounded, and cannot send J more because it is practically iii impossibility, and we must be patient afcnut it." Mr. Allen added: "General Sirdwood also states, 'The Tunnelling Companies here are all doing excellent work; and work, too,' that, I am sorry to say, never seems to have come to hand.'"
