DAIRY PRODUCE CARRIAGE.

NO DIFFICULTY ANTICIPATED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Oct. 18. Exporters of dairy produce do not appear to be particularly concerned regarding a suggestion in a cablegram from the High Commisisoncr that meat will take preference in loading for the United Kingdom during the present season. The authorities at Home .are known to be anx'ious to avoid the heavy charges for storage that had to be paid last season, and they may insist upon meat being moved quickly and regularly whenever possible, even to the disadvantage of other articles of export, but they cannot disregard the claims of butter and cheese. They require cheese especially. The allocations of insulated space for the next four or five weeks have been made by the Imperial Supplies Committee, and several exporters, replying to inquiries on the. point, stated that they were fairly tfell satisfied with the way in which their claims had been met. They had secured nearly all the space they asked for, and might even have difficulty, in certain cases, in using the allocation made them, owing to dairy produce not having come forward quite as quickly as had been kpected. The prospects for the future, as far rs insulated space for dairy prdduce is concerned, admittedly are uncertain, but exporters are hopeful. They anticipate that Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward will be able to make strong representations in London, and that the steamers placed in the New Zealand trade will not be fewer than last year. If there is no serious reduction in the number of Insulated steamers loading in Dominion ports, the exporters of dairy produce .should not have much cause for complaint, since an increase in the output of meat is hardly to be expected. The farmers sold heavily last year.
