BREACHES OF BY-LAWS.

A CHARGE DISMISSED.

The hearing of a number of bv-law cases occupied the attention of Mr. A. Crooke, S. M., for some time in the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. In connection with the count preferred against Henry T. Gaylard, who was charged with driving across a footpath in the borough at other than a proper crossing. Mr. Crooke said he had viewed the ground, and the result of his inspection confirmed the evidence that had been given for the defence. He dismissed the information.

Walter John Wilkie was convicted and fined 5s and costs for allowing a horse to wander at Vogeltown. For riding a bicycle with sufficient lights in Devon Doad on October 3. Mart>n Henry Barriball wns convicted and fined 5s and costs 17s fid. Percy Wilford Barriball. who was similarly charged, was also fined 5s and costs 17s 6d.

A penalty of 5s was imposed on Wilfred Mace for allowing a horse to wander on Korn Road on September 22. Costs totalled 17s Bd. Edward Erlandson admitted that lie allowed two cows and a h'orse to wander on Ngamotu Road, and he was fined os, with costs 17s Cd.

Charlotte Hultquist was mulcted in 5£ for riding a bicycle on a footpath in Barriball Street,'Fitzroy, Charges of allowing a motor-bus to stand in different streets of the borough' on the evenings of September 20 and October 7 respectively, without sufficient lights, were preferred against Herbert William Lightband. Defendant, who made no appearance, was fined 10s on each charge.

A half-caste Maori named Thomas Peri admitted charges of leaving his motor-bicycle in Currie Street in a manner calculated to obstruct the traffic, and of driving the machine without a registered number plate. Defendant was fined 5s on the first count, and was ordered to pay the costs in connection with the second.

Victor Gunson was charged that on October 6 he drove a motor-cur at an excessive pace round the corner of Devon and Currie streets; also that he failed to keep near as practicable to the lefthand side when crossing the intersection of Devon and Currie Streets. On the first count defendant was fined 10s. and on the second he was fined ss.

The Borough Inspector (Mr. B. Tippins) asked for leniency for Ernest Bedford, who was charged with riding a bicycle on the footpath \n Molesworth Street on October 12. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution.
