Bombardier Erie Kimbell, of Hawera, ■who is in camp with the 20th N.Z.F.A., hns been promoted to the rank of corporal. Mr. (ioodger, postmaster at'Manau, who has been in indifferent health for some Jime, lias been ordered'by his medical advisers to the South Island, for which ho loft on Monday. A cablegram states that Sir Joseph Ward's third son, Lieutenant Gladstone Ward, while motoring in London, collided with a tram in the darkened streets. The motor was smashed, and Lieutenant Ward was taken to hospital, bruised on the face and his head out. Two New Plymouth brothers, who had not seen one another for ten years, met' on September 0, a short distance behind the lines in France. They were Captain "Tim" Matthews, .A.RM.C, now attached to the Indian cavalry, and Corporal Alan Matthews, Taranaki infantry, sons of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. MaU thews, Fitzroy. Private Rupert Nieholls, who received* a very severe wound at Galllpoli, and who is sailing for England about the end of the month to undergo an operation to his injured leg, was last Tuesday presented by Captain Caldwell, on behalf of the member? of the Inglewood Fire Brigade, of which he "is an old member, with a pocket wallet as,a small token of the high regard in which he is held by his former comrades, Private Nieholls, in thanking the members of the brigade for their kindness, said he hoped ; the operation would be successful and that he would soon be back in Inglewood running out the reel again.
