ALICE COVEY IN A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. " TEE COMMANDING OFFICER." There was a good attendance at the Empire last evening to view the first screening of the Famous Players' latest feature, "The Commanding Officer," in which the leading part is played by the versatile young actress, Alice Dovey. "The Commanding Officer" is a stirring military romance in four acts. It combines in a thrilling and absorbing manner a novel plot and a splendid story excellently told. Hiss Alice Dovey gives a remarkable appealing performance of the heroine, and is ably assisted by a splendid cast, amongst whom is Jack Vickford, sister of the famous Mary. The official British war films and the latest "Topical Budget'' complete a most acceptable programme, 'which will be screened again to-night for the last occasion 10-MORROW,

Pn Friday night the management will present a complete change of programme for that night only, when the principle! item will be a thrillingly funny Triangle' I Keystone comedy, entitled'"My Valet," featuring 'Raymond Hitchcock (one of the latest big star additions to the Triangle players), Mabel Normand and the clever producer, Mack Sennett. It is in this picture that Mabel Normand and Raymond Hitchcock are said to score the comedy success of their lives, and these clever artists receive great assistance from Mack Sennett and a big cast ot comedians. SATURDAY, MATINEE AT 2 P.M. On Saturday there will be another complete change, for one day only, when the star item will be another Triangle comedy scream, "Fatty and Mabel Adrift," in which the fun is fast and furious, centering around the ever-popu-lar "Fatty," who is aMy supported by Mabel Normand. This programme also includes the latest "Gaumont War Graphic"; an official war film, "With the Royal Artillery in action," and a good educational picture, "Naval Guns in the Making." The full programme will be screened at both matinee and night sessions.
