NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB'S ANNUAL REPORT. Following is the report to lie submitted at tlie annual meeting of the New Plymouth Lawn Tennis anil Croquet Club on Tuesday ne/.t:—The club's overdraft this year appears as £(l4 Cs (id, as against' £33 10s lOd last year, an increase of £OO 15s Bd, occasioned mainly by the decrease in subscriptions owing to the number Df members who have left on active service. The membership is now: Playing members ft) (ladies 41, men 24); croquet members 24, honorary members (i 7 (■ladies f>7, men 10). Comparing with last year: Ph'iying members, ladies decrease 8, men decrease 22; croquet members decrease 2, honorary members decrease 17. No tennis matches were played during the season?' Croquet: A Grade, championship singles, Mrs. Whetter; handicap single, Mrs. A. Fookes; handicap doubles, Mrs. Whetter and Mrs. Hirst; American tournament, Mrs. A. Fookes. The thanks of the chtb are again due to those ladies who so kindly provided afternoon .tea during the season. Mrs. Peim acted as lion, secretary of the ladies' tennis committee and Mrs. A. Fookes acted'as honorary secretary to the croquet committee. The committee have much pleasure in thanking those ladies.

During the season the committee acquired, on behalf of the club, part of section 321 (adjoining the courts) containing 22 perches, the price given being £205, the sum of £25 being paid down,' the balance ( £175) remaining on mortgage at C per cent. This land should later prove a valuable asset to the club. The following club members enlisted for active service (two of whom, Peg. Quilliam and V. J. B. Hall, have made the supreme sacrifice): X. Arden, Dr. Rex Brewster, 13. Outfield, H. Davies, G. Deighton, Dr. Geo. Home, J. Hursthouse, Elliot King,. P. Moore, Allan Matthews, J. C. Nicholson, lan Pott, G. Pott, S. Paul, C. W. Quilliam, H. V. Searlc, H. L. Simpson, H. Seldon, A. C. Thompson, C. H. Weston and C. B. Webster Members are notified that subscriptions'"are payable now, and that as the club is in need of funds they are requested to pay promptly and if possible induce any new members to join. Members wishing to resign must give notice in writing. • No discount on subscription will he allowed this season owing to decreased income, and the committee trust that members will support them loyally in this resolution. The retiring members of the committe are Messrs E. B. Davies, E. Griffiths, J. C. Nicholson, F. H. Robertson and A. R. Ryder.
