AN INTERESTING NUMBER Vlie current issue of the "Taranakfan," the quarterly magazine issued by the pupils attending the New Plymouth Boys' -High .School, contains much interesting matter. It comprises. S-f pages .and it deals with' 2G subjects affecting school life. The volume is replete with information concerning the school staff, the committees entrusted with the management of various activities wit/iin the institution, the course of study and scholarships, and a lescription of the different departments. An illuminating article commenting on the importance of the preparatory department, forms the editorial. Bright-ly-written school notes, referring to 41 I subjects, follow. Touching reference is male in. the notes to the death of Lord Kitchener and to the loss of a number of "old boys" who have laid down their lives in the war. The term diary anl an item showing the form averages for the second term are succeeded by a lengthy account of the recent fire, which resulted in the main 'building of the High School and the new gymnasium being totally destroyed. Other aticles include a description of the work done during the term in the agricultural department, and special reference is made to the box-test-ing experiments. Shooting and football results are given in detail. Readers are able to obtain an excellent impression of life in an English school from the article entitled, "Some Reminiscences of Eton.'' A report of the wor.'; of the Young Helpers' League, "Preparatory Notes,'' "Cadet Notes," "H'ouso Notes," "Library Notes," "Masters: Past and Present," "Old Boys' Notes," and obituary notices are included in the comprehensive list of items contained in the journal. The visit of the Te Aute College first fifteen in June lasv and the football match which took place between the visitors and the school first fifteen form the subjects of an interesting account. The magazine is interpolated with photographs of football teams, shooting and cadet teams, views of the school, and the portraits of "eld boys" on active service. The journal is a cap-itally-printed, well-edited record of the activities of the school and its inmates, and is one which must always serve as a suitable memento to those who have been associated with the "School "on the I Hill." . ■
