The jumble stall in aid of. blind soldiers will be a feature at the "JRec" on Monday next. Miss Hamerton will bo in charge, and an appeal is mado for gifts of any description. Noth-nff will be refused. Already the following articles, amongst others, have been received: Antique ebony inkstand, set of Potts' irons, chairs, books, knife-clean'r, looking glass, etc. Gifts may be left at the Patriotic Depot, near railway; station, or at Miss Hamcrton's, The patriotic billiard tournament at the Criterion billiard parlours attracted a lot of attention during the past week, and several exciting game* were seenThe best break so far lies with A. 1.. Cock, Mrs. Foote is arranging for the Fitzroy booth, Jfctfj dames Clemow (Omata), and Honecigjp (Motnroa) will have charge of a |Hbined booth, and Mrs. HaddWl (Westown) ; is co-operating; with, the Women's Patriotic Committee for the latter'* booth. The Mayoress appeals for cakes, seoncs, and similar donations from the ladies of the town and coun," HELP FROM URUTT. The. comforts fund of the TtctbrDl League will be materially assisted as the result of a sale of work and concert held at Cru'ti last week under the auspices of the local Nursing Association. Despite the heavy rain and the swollen rivers, the function was a signal success. Plain and fancy work, produce, fan! animals, end refreshments were offered for sale, and found a ready market. There were also guessing comnetitions and a bran tub. The goods were donated by friends of the Association, and) were disposed of at prices which testified' to the liberality of the purchasers. A' varied musical programme was submit* ted in the afternoon and evening and was wrrir.iy appreciated. Buttonholes were ->o!d by a bovy of little girls and realised a fair sum of money. Among those who contributed to the success of "the fair were Mesdames Guseott, Alpe, Nicholls, Johnson, Hall, Wells andliryan, Misses G. Johnson, N. Murray, Sutton, Averill, Larsen, Wallneh and Nolan, Messrs Old, Larsen, Wells, Butt, iMiisker and Thomson. After paying the small expenses connected with the fnir it is expected that the sum of £7O will be realised.
