The annual appeal foi -fund? for this eausr: is being held throughout the British Empire on October 19, or on a date as near that as is considered practicable, tn this district, Saturday, October 21, has been set apart as "Our Day." At the present greatest crisis of our Empiie's history we must all feel that notlrng we can do or give can be too much. Our very existence as a nation is depending upon the gallant stand _onr men have made and are now making. Thousands of wounded arc being taken daily from t'lie battefields of France to the various hospitals, and money is most urgently needed to provide them with necessities and comforts. The local authorities have every confidence that Saturday's appeal will be nobly responded to by every loyal Biitisb sub-ect- jn this district. The anniversary of glorious Trafalgar may well be in all our thoughts and inspire lis to "do our duty' as faithful units of that gw.at Kmpire whose traditions of self-sacri-fice we shall try tc uphold. The sub-committee, comprising the Pied Cross .Market, of which Mrs. das. Wilson is convener, will have a spec ; al cake day at the market in Devon street. All sorts of produce will be as usual gratefully accepted, hut cakes will be the special feature of the day, and the Society hopes that all members and sympathisers will contribute libcra'lv.
