WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Mr W. J. Clare, who has just finished the new wharf for the Waitara ITartfour Board, handed it over to the Board at its meeting on Friday. The chairman, in mentioning the fact that the job was done £450 below the estimate, expressed his complete satisfaction witb the work, and said the Board were extremely fortunate in getting Mr Clare to do the jo'b. All the members heartily endorsed the chairman's remarks. To compensate Mr Glare for loss and damage to his plant whilst being used for the Board's work, the Board voted him a bonus of £GO. When speaking to Mr Glare this morning, lie told me that the whole of the work was carried out according to his own design, and that credit was also due to the willing V-and of workmen under him.
Last Friday evening at Wattii a farewell social was given to Private Fred Bryant, who was home on final leave. A veny enjoyable evening was spent by the dancing people. During the evening the chairman of the Waihi Patriotic League (Mr H. N.'-Purdie) presented the departing guest with a case of ]iipes, and Mr W. Haines, on behalf of the North Taranaki Dairy Factory, spoke very highly of tflie qualities of Mr Bryant, who was their manager. Mr Bryant suitable responded.
