Mr. Connett reported having made satisfactory arrangements about finance, and that the frontage along the new sliow-grouhds had been planted with pinus inuricata, which would 'have a hedge of golden ake-ake. The president said lie had seen Mr. Sergei, who said that tliere was a considerable feeling in many portions of the province that there should be a district competition. The Society should offer the open prizes, for which the prizetakers in each district would compete, each district the prizes for their own growers. Ib would make a very strong section. / Those present strongly favored the idea, which was approved, the chairman, Messrs Luxton, Nolan, Reube, Lister, and Moore being appointed a committee to meet Mr. Sergei to discuss details of the scheme, and with .power to act.
Mr. F. Watson wrote declining his appointment as vice-president, owing to lack of time, and lie did not wish to appeal "merely as a figure-head." Major E. P. Cox, O.C.
