SHORT-WEIGHT BREAD.
DEPARTMENT KEEPING ITS EYES OPEN. Wellington, October 10. The Public Health Department is paying special attention to the question of short-weight "pounds" of butter offered for sale. The Hon. J. W. Russell today approved a number of prosecutions on charges of selling light-weight pats. In some eases jt has been found that six ''pounds,'' when weighed together, were four and a-half ounces short. "There, must be the right quantity from now on," said Mr. Russell. "There will be a campaign to see that the people get a pojjnd weight of butter when they pay for it. If butter is Is (3d and a pound is an ounce short the buyer is clearly being ro'bbed of a penny per pound, or from six to seven per cent"
