Laildlaw, Waverleyj Privato Alfred L. Mest, of Weetmere; Private Prank Counell and Private Levi H. Saunders, all of whom are well known in the Waverley district. Private G. J. Paina, formerly of the Patea 'Post Office, is amongst the wounded. Another Patea boy, Private ' Sydney Mercer,, is amongst the list of killed. Private Alex. Bold, son of Mr. A. Reld, of South road, Hawera, died of wouflti* on September 'Hi. The deceased went away witli the Seventh Reinforcements, and after seeing service in Egypt, left with the Xe'.v Zealand Brigade for . France, where he encored the trendies ' v on May 12. He wa?. a member of the Hawera Territorials and held the rank oi sergeant previous to enlisting. Bnchlcr, of the 11th Reinforcements, who wa* killed in action in Prance,' was for three years school teaching at Urenui. He was born 'in Dunedin and educated at Wellington College His brother, Mr. L. He w.i; for several year- an employee of the Egmor.t Bo» Factory. and bis numerous friends ara hoptful that his injuries are not severe, and that he will be able to get a littk cf his own back in future engagements. The latest casualty list contained the information that Private Tom BaKter, formerly of Eltham, had been killed in action. A carpenter by trade, Baxter was very fond of outside work, and in spare, moments played cricket for the Eltham Club. He was at one time a sergeant in the Eltham Territorials, and a good average shot with the rifle. Ho heard the call, and put aside, the e»w [ and batting pads, and joined the /defenders of liberty. He has gone, awl i his friends have the melancholy satisfaction of knowing that he did bis duty. Private Henry Chapman, wounded and ! embarked for England, is a son of X .1. Chapman, of Tongaporutu, not of New Plvmouth, as previously reported. Chaplain-Captain G. C. Cruickshank, ! reported wounded, was u few years ago stationed in Taranaki. He left as An- ' glican chaplain to the Mth Reinforce- ' ments. Trooper Oswald de W.
