FORCING A PATH,, THROUGH GERMAN DESPERATE RESISTANCE. APPALLING AND UNPARALLELED SLAUGHTER, GERMANY UNABLE TO BEAR THE LOSSES. Received Oct. 8, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 7. The Morning Post's 'Petrograd correspondent states that General BrusilofY's third great move is now irresistibly forcing a path through Germany's deiIterate resistance between the Pripet marshes and Haliez. There is appalling and unparalleled slaughter. German 'prisoners arc arriving in thousands, Whole regiments shrink to single battalions during a faw days' fight. The Germans are unable much longer to bear such losses. Russia freely pours forward to inevitable victory with new waves from her ocean of trained men. RUSSIA'S HARD TASK, GERMANY'S STRONG FORCES. THE PUBLIC WARNED. Received Oct. 7, 8 p.m. Petrograd, Oct. 7. A semi-official statement warns the public against expecting rapid developments of events in Volhvnia or Galicia. Though the enemy positions are not as strong as those in northern France, Hin- | den-burg has thrown against Russia all his main forces and nearly all his reserves. FIERCE BATTLES PROCEEDING. RUSSIANS CAPTURE POSITIONS. London, October G. A Russian communique states: There are fierce battle in the region of I'eniaki, Gukolavoc and Jllynovoe. The enemy is counter-attacking and obstinately resists our offensive, We captured some positions southward of Biv.ezaiiv. We continue the Caucasus coastal advance towards the river Karshuddarass. | Our Itabrudja offensive continues. I ENEMY ATTACKS REPULSED Received Oct. 8, 5.5 p.m. j Petrograd, Oct. 7. A communique states that fighting continues at the Ceniuvka and Zlota Lipa rivers. The enemy attempted to recapture the lost ground. Foiir consecutive counter-attacks were repelled with neavy loss. AN AUSTRIAN CLAIM. Received Oct. 8, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, Oct. 7. An Austrian communique states that General Boehmermollis' army defeated live enemy attack south-east of Jasinoof and captured the Russian position south of Manajoj. RUSSIANS WORKING ON A PLAN. Received Oct. 8, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 7. The Daily Chronicle's Petrograd correspondent states that lighting continues west of Luck, near Drzezany, the Russian attacks being timed to coincide with the energetic operations on the Dobrudja, where, after the first reverses, the campaign is promising, the Allies having recovered the initiative.
