WOMAN SCHOOL INSPECTOR.
TIME INOPPORTUNE FOR APPOINT4IENT. Replying to a suggestion that a woman inspector of schools should bo appointed for the Auckland district, tlio I'Miieatioii Department replied that the Act provided for the employment of female inspectors to look after matters specially pertaining to girls' and infant work. This had not been lost sight of, but as such inspectors could not take the place of inspectors at present employed, but would be supplementary, the time did not appear opportune for such an extension, The Board of Education, after a lively discussion, appointed a returned soldier as clerk, at £l5O a year, in preference to a young man whose qualifications were admitted, but who was of military age.
