Miss A Scully, supervisor of the -Wellington Telephone Exchange, lias been appointed Inspector of Telephone (Exchanges and 'Women's iPost Offices.

Captain T. L. Buxton, of the Transport Service, is paying a brief visit to iiis home in New Plymouth. Sergeant Hugh Fraser, of the lflth Reinforcements, arrived in New Plymouth on Thursday night on his final leave.

Mr. A. E. Carver, of the New Plymonth Deeds Office, has received notice of his transfer to Christchurch, and leaves for his new sphere of duties on Wednesday next. The death of one of the pioneers of the New Plymouth settlement, 'Mr. Philip Vercoe, occurred at Blenheim the other day. Mr. Vercoe, who was ninetyone years of age, came out with his father alld mother and family by the Timandra, arriving in New Plymouth on February 24, 1842.

Mr. Richard Monk died at Knikoun last week at the age of eighty-seven. Ho celebrated his golden wedding last October. He is survived by his widow, four daughters, eight sons, forty-nine grandchildren and twenty great-grand-children,
