(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOWN BOARD. OpunaJce, Oct. 4, The first meeting of the new Town Board was held on Monday evening. There were present: Commissioners W. C. Dudley, 0. Mnlloie, J. p. Burton, E. L. Thorpe, and C. A. Trotter. Mr. Dudley was re-elected chairman, j The South Taranaki Amusements Co. applied for a reduction in the price of hall hire, for which they now paid 25s + per night. Mr. Andrews, of the Egmont Pictures, also asked for a reduction, the c charge to him being 30s per night.—The » Board decided to put both companies on the same, basis and make a charge of 30s per night. The revenue from these two shows in a, yeai would amount to £230, a. rather still' proposition for an out-of-date hall. The new Board had a very well filled exchequer wlten it took office, the credit Q balance being £2OO, exclusive of the Domain Boards £3O, and a similar amount c to the credit of the Cemetery Board. a The Board decided to make an offer to „ the New Plymouth Borough Council for six gas lamps at £1 each. ° GENERAL. At tlie horticultural show there was a - very nice display of exhibits. Mr. Gibson, of Eiverlea, had a rare and choice collection of narcissi. In cut blooms Mrs. A. H. Moore was the most successful exhibitor. In pot plants Mra. Brewnan, senr., secured the points prize, and was the inrgest prize winner at tlie show. In the cooking section Mesdames Watson and Ross were the principal prize-takers, and Mrs. Thorpe in the decorative section. The outside schools were wel" represented in the children's section The Patriotic Society received the greatest benefit from the show. The Ladies' Guild had charge of the supperroom, and the proceeds from the sale of exhibits and war curios were devoted to the patriotic fund. A football team consisting of the Opu- \ nake public school and Convent school boys, journeyed to Oaonui on Saturday to play tlie Rahotu and Oaomii school boys, and were victorious by 3 point* to nil. The Opunake • school girls also played the RaJioUi-Oaonui girls at rounders, and wop by 6 to nil. Some of tlie boys and girls walked to Oaonui and back. The Oaonui ladiei provided [ a nice afternoon "spread" for the c'liil- '\ dren, and they relished it. ] ■ l
