Lady Carroll lias received word that Lieut, P.eweti Kohere, brother of tiia Rev. licwoti Kohere, Teararoa, and who was well known in the GUborne district, was killed in action. Lieut. Kohere, who was about 37 years of age, was very popular, possessing many European ni.d native friends. He came from a great fighting stock, being a gritmliioii oi the late Major Morgan Kohere, one of the greatest warriors of the Xgatiporau tribe, who fought with Major Ropata. Lieut. Kohrre was edu\ cated iit Te Aute College, and was a prominent atlriete. Ho was a man of line jihysique, and a member of the Maori Contingent which went Home to King Edward's Coronation. He left with the Second Maori Contingent, and proved himself a popular and efficient officer. He was * widower, and leaves several young children. Lieut.
