WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Waitara, Friday. Tlie Waitara wharves had quite a busy appearance on Wednesday, when tho Onehunga, Wellington aiu' two coastal steamers were disc-barging cargo. I hear that an old trader to this port, thfl •auxiliary scow Albatross, which went ashore'at Marakopa Heads some time ago, is now a total wreck, and has been sold for a very small figure by Captain Williamson, who is endeavoring to procure another suitable vessel to work the river ports. There was a. very large number present in the Clifton Hall on Thursday night, when the Waitara ißUriotie Committee arranged a concert on behalf of the Soldiers' Comforts Fund. The cream of the programme was a number of contributions 'bv the talented Clifford family. In addition, Miss M. Frost, Miss Sassun, Miss Taylor and Mr. C. White assisted to make an excellent evening's entertainment. There was the usual''selling of lollies, etc., by a bevy of young-ladies. The Municipal Band appeared to'V-e in exceptionally good form, and their playing of several selections was generally well spoken of. News came through to-day to Mr, \V. Trim (borough forei..un) that hh son Harry Ims been killed li action. Private Trim was well known, i<nd both Mr. 'and Mrs. Trim will have thO deepest sympathy in their sad bereavement, although Harry died a hero's while lighting for hi? country. I may bore mention that Mrs. Trim is one of our best-workers in all patriotic function?. , Waitara has been dekigeu with ran to-day, nnd the town has, consequently, been very quiet. The building of the new picture dieaire is" going on apace. It promise- to be an imposing building, and, judging bv the foundation thai has already been i.i'ld, the contractor (Mr. 0. fi. Pollard) is' expecting a heavy weight to "est on it.
