A BLTJDGER SENTENCED. By Veiegraph.—Press Association. Wellington September 2f>. Revolting details were disclosed in a case in the Magistrate's Court in which a man, Matthew Cornwcll, was charged with an offence under the. Wai Regulations Act. It appeared that Comwell in duced the wife of a soldier on active service, who was previously of good repute, to lead an immoral life'. Ho took all her earnings. The magistrate deicribed C'ornwell as a low-down brute and imposed a sentence of nine months' imprisonment. MILITARY SERvICE FIGURES.
Wellington, September 2!>. Provisional figures given by the Government Statistician indicate that during the enrolment period under the Military Service Act, 7000 fresh enrolments worn received, over 40,000 notified changes of address, 182,6.10 applied for enrolment certificates, which will be sent out during October in alphabetical order. He estimates that there will be about 200,000 on the roll, of whom up to 80,000 will be in the first division.
