From time to time during the period of the great war the residents of the Mangorci, Carrington \ and Franklcy roads have held various functions in each of the districts for the purpose of raising funds icf the Ked Cross, the Belgian Relief Fund, Wounded Soldiers' Fund, etc. Everyone who was present at the recent basket social held in the Carrington School will no doubt remember what great success attended this elfort in aid of the Red Cross. The three districts, having now amalgamated, are holding a monster gift auction on October 5, to be followed on the evening of Friday, oth, with a basket social, 'both affairs being to help the 'Belgian (Relief Fund. A strong committee has been formed, with Mr. H. L. Spence as chairman, and it now only needs the goodwill of the clerk of the weather to make the success of the day assured. The Legion of Frontiersmen in the Dominion has about 1700 members on it? roll list, and of these 1200 are now on active service. At the recent North Island conference of the Legion it was resolved that a general mutual aid Legion of Frontiersmen fund appeal should be made throughout the Dominion for the purpose of assisting returned members. Therefore the concert, organised by the Egmont troop, which is to take place in the Hempton Hall, Okato, this evening, is to be commended. The assistance of some of the best of New Plymouth's amateur talentincluding Mr. and Mrs. Macdonakl, Mrs. Wilkes, Miss Gilbert, Miss Smith, Messrs N, Day, and been invoked, and, combined with Okato assistance, the concert should be a really-en-joyable one.

The sale of flowers by the Women's Patriotic' Committee on the coming Saturday will be in aid of the fund to purchase Christmas gifts for the Maori soldiers at the front and in England.
