THE LATE WM. MONKHOUSE.. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ■Stratford, Yesterday. Mr. T. L. Fookes received cable advice this morning ol the death of Mr. Win. Uonkhouse, who was well-known throughout the Stratford district. He ri'ivtj in .Stratford from England about thirty years ago, and took lip n bush section at the Hastings Road, his lirothers-in-law, Messrs. Charles and Henry Bell, taking up the adjoining i'lrm. Mr. Monkhoufe called his farm f.oH'gartlt, and the Lowgarth Dairy Company derived its name therefrom. He vas well-known ns a public man, having been a member and chairman of the 'tratford County Council, member of ibe Taraivaki Kdueation Board, member if the Stratford Licensing Bench and !'ciiool Committee. As first chairman of ihe Stratford Hospital Board, he had a jrreat deal to do with the establishment ind equipment of the hospital which has proved such a boon and blessing to the listrict. Mr. Monkhouse mis a candidate for Parliamentary honors, but was in c tiecessful 011 the two occasions he contested the seat. After farming in ditfer■nt parts of the district, he ultimately Jet,tied in Stratford; and was for a time •ecretary of the Stratford Central Co-op. 4tore Company, and auditor of the Lnw(TartJi Dairy Company. With his wife nnd family, he returned to England about 11 year? ago, and settled in Wor- ' estershire, where be carried 011 fruit farming up to the time of his death. Mr. Monkhouse, who was C2 years 01 tge, leaves a widow, two sons and a daughter. Tin. eldest son, Mi. Allan Monkhouse,' is an engineer in Russia, enjaged in manufacturing munitions of ivar, while the second son, Wilfred, enlisted with the Worcestershire Border Kegiment and obtained a commission, but ■vas subsequently invalided and declared medically unfit. THE LATE MR. T. A. LEES. Friends throughout the Toko district will regret to hear of the death of Mr. .'P. A. Lees, which took place at his resilience At Toko to-day. He arrived in ■Stratford from Scotland about ten years apo, and purchased: a farm from the Crown Dairy Company at Toko, where he iias resided since. He took a keen •nterest in agricultural matters, and wan 1.. prominent member of the Stratford A. and P. Association and Scottish Society. Mr. Lees has been in failing health for some time. He leaves a widow, one daughter, and one son to mourn his loss. The funeral will take place on Friday next, leaving Mr. Lees' late residence at 12.30 p.m.

GENERAL. Mr. J. Musters lias received cable a-d----rice that his third son, Arthur (Dick) tvsis wounded oil September 14. Arthur, |.rior to enlisting, was a member of the tfnwera railway staff. Mrs. Russ has also received advice that, her son, Clarence, lias been wounded. Private Russ, before enlisting, was an Assistant with Messrs. Hallenstein Bros.' 10-al branch. The funeral of the late Mrs. R. H. Phillips took place this afternoon, when the very large cortege showed the respect In which the deceased lady was held. The Rev. Tinsley officiated. '
