SYDNEY WOOL SALES.

Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. Sydney, September 2a. At tlie wool sales competition was dull. Best wools 'were unchanged, others being a penny lower.

The New Zealand Loan and (Mercaiitil» Agency Co., Ltd. (Stratford branch) report as follows:

On Juesday, September 5, we held our usual Stratford sale. There was a moderate entry., with a good demand for all classes yarded, and most lines were sold fxeept one or two, for which the reserves appeared above ruling ideas of value. Store cows (small) made £3 ]2s to £7 10s, medium £7 15s to £3 fair US (is to £8 7s Cd, fat cows £lO 10s to £l2 ss, empty heifers £4 lis to £5 ss, better lines £5 12s to £5 ,18s, 2-year steers £0 18s to £7 19s, yearling heifers £3 Is to £3 7s Od, yearling Steers 04s to 71s.

There was a fair entry in the dairy yards, but owing to the backward growth of feed .the, demand is not so good as the' season warrants. Good cows brought £l2 to £l3 2s Cd, heifers (medium) £8 to £9 7s fid, test sqrts £9 10s to £lO 7s. Cd, those showing close to profit £lO 10 s to £lO 15s, back" ward and low in condition £4 15s to £5 1 7s od, medium lines £0 10s to i£7 17s Cd.

On Tuesday, 12th inst., we had a small entry, and sold what was in at from £8 to £l3.

On Friday, 15th inst., we held our Te Wera sale, when we had a small yarding, ,but sold most lines at the hammer and afterwards at the following rates: Empty 20-month heifers £o 2s, store cows £7 17s to £B, small weaners 335, springing heifers £5 10s to £ll, springing cows £7 10s to £!) Ins, yearling steers £5 Os Od to £5 Bs, yearling heifers. £2 7s Cd to £4 Is.

On Tuesday, lttth inst., we had a fair yarding at Stratford, both in the store and dairy pens, all of which met with good demand, and most lines were cleared at advanced values. The following are some of the prices obtained: Hoggets (medium) 23s Cd, wethers were passed in at 345, store cows £5 Ms to £0 5s for small, £0 Ss to £7 4s for medium,.fair £7 lis to £7 13s, forward cows £8 to £8 fis, fair lines £8 10s to £8 17s, good £9 10s, yearling heifers £3 13s Od to £3 lis, medium lines £4 7s to £4. 2s, empty heifers 90s to 110s. Dairy heifers. —In the dairy yards wc had a good sale, but the quality of heifers were not up to the usual Taranaki variety. Prices: Fair and backward £7 10s to £8 las, good £9 to £!) 10s, backward lines £5 ISs to £fi las, medium quality £6'l7s Od to £7 ss. On Friday, 22nd inst., we held our Tarata sale, when we had a medium yarding, and the following prices were realised:—Springing heifers £5 2s 6d to £6 6s, yearling heifers £3 3s fld, yearI lings (mixed) £2 15s Od, store cows £4 las to £8 Os.

On- Tuesday, lfllh inst., we held our usual monthly auction sale of wool, sheepskins, hides, etc. We had a fair catalogue, and cleared same at advanced prices. Full-woolled sheepskins advanced about Id 'per. lb, and inferior lines showed a slight rise. Crutchings advanced from >/id to y 2 d. Calfskins met with a keen demand. Butchers' hides advanced from %A to y 4 d per lb. -Wool: Crutchings, strong and clean, fl'/id tc 9»/,d, little seed 9d; fleece, dead 9%d to 11 %d for fairly good lines. Sldns.—Fair-woolled skins, with somu; pelts, made from o%d to 8y 4 per lb. three-quarter-woolicd 9%d to Is per lb: salted pelts as to 13s 3d; dou'ble-fleeced sheepskins made up to las each. Hides: Cowhides, settlers', light B'/,d to SV perlb; butchers', light, up to lOd, scored and cut fii/od to 9y 3 d; calfskins, nice line, 12% d, first quality up to Is, light and fleshy 9'/ 2 d to 10y 2 d, cut and inferior 7d to B'/ 2 d. Tallow, 22s Cd to 235.
