WAR PENSIONS BOARD.

APPLICATIONS'DEALT WITH.

Wellington, September 25. Sitting in Wellington last week, the War Pensions Board dealt with 163 cises, lit new claims and 52 renewals. Of the new claims 40 were from soldier*, and were dealt with as follow: Nine were granted pensions, 33 were granted allowances, five were declined, and two were adjourned. Of the remaining 02 Maims, which were from dependents, 41 vere -runted pensions and eight were «iven allowances, ten being declined and three adjourned. Of 52 applications for renewal, 34 were extended for a further period (15 being put on final payment). In twelve eases it was decided that payment should cease forthwith and two were adjourned for further information. Three cases were converted to permanent pensions. In the case of an application for an increase it was decided to make no change. The following is the summary of war pensions to dato:-Soldicrs, 854 pensions, 2107 allowances, 278 declined h adjourned, 3S in hand.'toail, 3102. I>•pci'dcnts, 1028 pensions, 10S allowances, 102 declined, S adjourned, gross total, J. 485 claims dealt with. , From a financial point of view, the position is as follows: Soldiers, 754 pensions of an annual value of £40,9,>8, an average of £54 per pension; wives, 221 pensions with 342 children, £21,027 per ennum, an average of £O7 per annum; other dependents, . 807, annual value £"3 023, average, £2O, total 1752 pensions' of the annual value of £81i,43». In addition, there are 2215 allowances bcin«- paid at an annual rate ol £lO3 400. This brings thf total number of people drawing pensions up to : J ,097, and annual value to £104,841, the average pension being £43.
