The story of ''Alsace'' commences at the time when Germany annexed the French provinces in IS7I, and the end happen* .Hiring the first months of the prcsen', great war. The story concerns the marriage of a young Frenchman to a pretty girl with strong German sympathies. His mother strenuously fought against the union, but the girl won. Shortly afterwards war was declared, the mother sought her son again to beseech him to take up arms for her beloved France, but the wife was in front of her. She made her husband promise jo meet her in a German town; he was met by a mob of rioting Germans, who recognise him as a Frenchman, and they treat him so badly that he has just sufficient strength to crawl to his mother's arms and die. The dramatic conflicts of the love of a. mother for her son, and the love, of a wife for her husband, and the love of ' "vHi for their country, is 10 Udlfnllj •voven into the story that the audience is completely carried away by the intensity of each scene. Madame Rejano gives an impressive portrayal as the mother. The end of the play leaves everyone thrilled. "Alsace"' is a play that should not be missed. The supporting programme is made up of a bright comedy drama "The Sealskin Coat" (Kalem comedy drama), the "Topical Budget," and a clever series of cartoons, "Charlie, •tiie Chef" (Movca).
