STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday. Dominion Day was not generally observed to-day, with the exception that the banks and solicitors' offices are closed, and the ilag Hying on the local Post Ollice. One would almost forget that there is such a day. A start is to be made to-morrow with pulling down the premises in Broadway, where the new picture theatre is to be erected. An inquest was held this afternoon at Ngaere concerning the death of .Mr. R. Cresswell. Mr/A. W. Reid, J.P., was Acting-Coroner, and after the evidence of the deceased's daughter, and son-in-law (Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Jones), and Dr Cooper, the jury returned a verdict that deceased came by his death by ha'.iging, while in a. state of unsound mind. "

Still another juvenile case. An assistant in a local store last week lost his coat, containing something over £0 in money, and other articles, and for a day or two thought that perhaps some of the other employees were having a joke with him. However, on Saturday, getting more anxious, the police were informed, and on making enquiries, the parcel boy in the firm's employ admitted the theft, and showed the police where the missing coat had been hidden.

At a concert and euclire party held by the residents of Te Popo, on Friday night, the sura of £4 was raised in aid of Christmas -gifts for the boys at the front.
