STRATFORD

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Saturday. Mesdames W. J. Malone and W. Robinson were in charge of the Patriotic Mart on Saturday, while tlie tea rooms were under the supervision of Mesdames Grant and Freer. Both departments report a busy day. Tlie Stratford Patriotic Committee, at its meeting hist night, voted ;he Ladies' Committee £lO towards Christmas gifts for the boys at tlie front. At the school gymnasium yesterday afternoon the Stratford High School Senior Cadets made a presentation to Lieut. Gray, on the occasion of his leaving the company. QuartermasterSergeant Stevenson, in making- him a presentation of a pocket-book and cigar-ette-holder, referred to tlie kindly feelings that had always existed between the lieutenant and the corps, and they all regretted his departure. At the same time they were pleased to know that the transfer meant promotion. Lieutenant Gray, in acknowledging, said he would always look back with pleasure to the many afternoons he had spent with the corps as their instructor. Sergeant-Major Miihoney, who was wounded at Gallipoli and is a fine soldier, succeeds Lieut. Gray and 'was introduced to the company.

Mr. J. MeFadgen, formerly of Cardiff, has decided to miike Te Puke his future home, and will be leaving Stratford for there shortly.

To-day tlie Plunkett Committee had a busy day at their shop, disposing of sweets, flowers, etc., for the local Plunkett Nurse funds. So far £1? 10s has been collected, and seeing the shop is not closing till this evening the funds should be considerably augmented.

At a special meeting of the Borough Council last evening formal resolutions with regard to tlie electric light loan were passed. The Council probably will not assume control until November.
