CAMPAIGN BECOMING DESPERATE. RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE PROGRESSING. , Time 9 Service. London, Sept. 21. Mr. Stanley Washburn wires from Galieia on the 10th that General TellerbachefPs army, which has faced most difficult, country since the commencement of the great offensive, is now surging on steadily. The total' advance from the winter line is fourteen miles. There has been almost uninterrupted lighting since the end of August, resulting in the capture of 20,000 prisoners, including 8000 Germans, and 22 guns. At the commencement of his offensive General Tcherhacheff faced six Austrian and one Gorman division; now th"re are an additional seven German divisions, including one from the Sommc, and two Turkish divisions. The Germans are strenuously trying to hold the position and render sweeping movements more difficult. The campaign promises to become similar to that on the West front. RUSSIAN SUCCESSES London, Sept. 20. A Russian communique states: An enemy offensive on the lvovel-'Rovno railway was everywhere repulsed. We captured a position on Panther Mountain, in the Carpathians. We dislodged the Kurds from a mountain ridge south-east of Mush, experiencing fogs and fierce snowstorms. A GERMAN REPORT. London, Sept. 20. A Gorman communique pays: The Russian Guards continue to attach west of iLutsk. There have been sanguinary storming attacks on a 20-kilometre front near Korytniea. The enemy gained local successes in the Carpathians at the H'akyr Pass and Tatarce. lie stormed Ludowa seven times. We captured the Smotree summit and occupied the frontier heights astride the Vulcan Pass, AN AUSTRIAN REPORT Received 'Sept. 22, 5.40 p.m. Amsterdam, Jept. 22. An Austrian communique states: The enemy continued attacks with the greatest stubbornness in the Carpathians, and slightly pushed hack one of our salient frontal positions eastward of the :P«ntyr ridge.
