That the Germans are not expected to return to any of the villages they have succeeded in damaging and destroying in the rear of the present Allied firing line in France is shown by the work that is now from time to time being given to the British troops in France. An account of this work is contained in a letter received by a resident of Geelong from his son, who is fighting with the troops in France. One of the wonders of the war, the writer states, is the work being done by these soldiers in khaki in "clearing up" France—in tidying, as it were, the chaos left by the invaders when they were rolled back to their present positions. Thousands of men are regularly given a week's work in villages and towns out of artillery range, setting the houses in order once again. Apparently the British troops are as handy at thin form of "clearing up" as they are at "cleaning out" the enemy trenches with the bayonet. CURE FOR RHEUMATISM. One year ago I consulted one of the leading specialists of the Dominion (now deceased).
