TWO BRITISH STEAMERS SUXK. • J,ondon, September IS. The British steamers Butetowu and Swedish Prince have been sunk, | AMERICA'S CCOiIRLACEXCy. ' ICew York, Sept. IS. An American who escaped death when o. British steamer was torpedoed on September 2 arrived by the Tuscania. He reported that it was unquestionable that a German submarine attacked the vessel, 'on which were 28 Americans, mostly muleteers. He stated that the Department took his depositions, but it is understood no further action will be taken. Twenty-seven Americans who were aboard the Kelvina arrived to-day. They informed the State Department that a submarine torpedoed the steamer without warning at 2 o'clock in the morning. The torpedo struck the port side. Although it was evident that the ship was sinking, the submarine did not attempt to render assistance. The crew were forced to remain in a small boat for fourteen hours until rescued by a British trawler.
