WIRELESS OPERATORS RESUME. 'Aus'traiian-N.Z. Cable Association. Sydney, Sept. 17. The wireless operators have resumed, pending a compulsory conference. CRISIS IN NICARAGUA. Washington, Sept. 17. A crisis lias occurred in Nicaragua, owing to the opposition of Costa Rica. Honduras and Salvador to a treaty with the United States and Nicaragua, by which Nicaragua ceded to the United States the right for the construction of a canal, also a naval base in the Gulf of Fouseca. This would enable the United Srates to protect Panama. America is watching the situation closely, and two cruisers are in Nicaraguan waters. CANADIAN POLITICS. Vancouver, Sept. 15. British Columbia has granted Women's I suffrage. The prohibition vote, exclusive of soldiers' votes now being taken in Britain and France, was carried by a majority of SOOO.
ACTION OF SUGAR GROWERS. Brisbane, Sept. IS. At a meeting of the sugar growers of the Bundaberg district it was decided not to Inn-vest tile cane until the recent award, largely increasing employees' wages, was suspended. As the award has already been gazetted, Government intervention in the situation is precluded. 4 SIARRIAGE PROMISES. i New York, Sept. 1". The joint commission for the revision of the Protestant Episcopal prayer book has recommended sweeping changes in the marriage service, ■which will be considered at the triennial convention in October. Tile changes include the omission of the bride's promise to o'bev, also the bridegroom's promise to endow the bride with his worldly goods.
